Brigitte Lasser, M.D.

Hi, my name is Brigitte, and I’m a psychiatrist.

It’s nice to meet you.

I have been a board certified psychiatrist since 2020. I have experience treating most adult mental illnesses, including depression and anxiety spectrum, PTSD and complex trauma, ADHD, bipolar disorder spectrum, schizophrenia spectrum disorders, and people with substance use disorders.

I did my psychiatric residency training at what was then Mount Sinai Beth Israel, in downtown Manhattan and went to medical school at FIU Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine in Miami, FL. I completed my training in 2020.

The greatest part of training in Miami and then lower Manhattan was the diversity of people who walked through our doors every day. This incredible experience taught me an empathetic, non-judgmental, and comprehensive approach to my work.

My Approach

As a psychiatric physician, my primary role is to get a deep understanding of your symptoms, current and past, and determine whether you would benefit from a trial of medications to help you feel your best self.

While I will focus on understanding whether your symptoms are consistent with a mental health diagnosis as defined by the DSM (Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders), my primary focus will be to find a treatment for your specific, unique-to-you, needs. I will also work to identify lifestyle and environmental factors that are potentially impacting your mental health and brainstorm ways to make adjustments to reduce the stress imposed by these dynamics.

My Practice

Currently, I am licensed in New York State and solely see patients virtually. I am not in network with any insurance, but you can collect reimbursement from your insurance carrier if you have out-of-network benefits. This allows me to provide an excellent level of care, and the flexibility in schedule and availability allows me to provide a high level of access to that care. I will provide all the necessary documentation.

Initial sessions are $500. Subsequent visits are $250 for 30-minute visits or $375 for 45-minute visits which, we will discuss and plan together.

About the first visit

At our first session, I will start by asking you to tell me everything about why you’ve reached out. I give you the platform because my job in the beginning is just to listen.

I want to know about specific symptoms, but I’m also going to want to know about you, who you are, what your life is like. Mental health doesn’t exist in a vacuum, my goal is to learn your story, no detail unimportant or irrelevant. I will guide you, of course. Sometimes it’s hard to know where to start and how to put things into words, so if you have a hard time, I’ve got you.

If I feel that you would benefit from medications, I will provide you with all the different options and guide you to making a choice that you feel good about. When it comes to psychiatric medications, it is often a trial-and-error process to find the right fit, so I let you take the reins when it comes to making decisions, with my full support and guidance.

While I do not specifically provide psychotherapy, I have training in many forms of therapy, such as psychodynamic psychotherapy, CBT, and DBT, and supportive therapy. In addition to the medications, I aim to help you identify thought and behavior patterns that may be negatively impacting your life, and the source of those patterns, to help you reframe and make better-informed decisions that help you help yourself.
